On February 4, 2025, China announced it would impose counter-tariffs on US goods starting February 10. These tariffs include a 15% tariff on US coal and liquefied natural gas (LNG), and a 10% tariff on crude oil, farm equipment, and some autos. China is responding to the 10% tariff imposed by the US on Chinese goods, which cited Beijing’s failure to stop illegal drugs.
In addition, China has launched an anti-trust investigation into Google, seen as another retaliatory measure. The rising trade tensions between the world’s two largest economies have reignited fears of a trade war.
