US Ambassador to India, Eric Garcetti, praised Indian immigrants on April 26 during an interview with ANI in New Delhi. He humorously noted that previously, the joke was that you couldn’t become a CEO in the US if you were Indian, but now the joke has shifted to not being able to become a CEO in America if you’re not Indian. He highlighted the significant contributions made by Indian immigrants in major companies like Google, Microsoft, and Starbucks, emphasizing their impact.
Garcetti also highlighted that one in ten CEOs of Fortune 500 companies are Indian immigrants who studied in the US, indicating their substantial presence in top leadership positions.
Expressing concern for the well-being of Indian students in the US, Garcetti assured that the country is a safe place and deeply cares for their welfare. He reassured parents that when their children are in the US, they are considered as part of the American community, emphasizing the availability of resources to support students, including mental health services, despite being far away from home and family.
