Tata Motors and Mahindra are offering big discounts on their electric vehicles (EVs) due to lower battery costs. Tata Motors is providing up to Rs 3 lakh off on the Nexon EV. Mahindra is offering a similar discount on the XUV400 EV. These price cuts result from lower battery prices, which automakers are passing on to customers.
These discounts help meet Corporate Average Fuel Efficiency (CAFE) norms. CAFE norms evaluate an automaker’s entire lineup, not just individual models. Tata Motors explained that the price cuts are only due to lower battery prices, not overproduction.
Tata Motors also plans to expand its EV lineup. This includes an EV variant of the Safari with a driving range of 400-500 km on a single charge. The company aims to make EVs more accessible and boost their adoption in India.
