Indian influencers using the X platform (formerly known as Twitter) are expressing their excitement as they benefit from the social media giant’s innovative advertising revenue sharing initiative. Under this new scheme, select content creators on the platform are now eligible to receive a portion of the advertising revenue generated by the company. The brainchild of X’s owner, Elon Musk, this initiative has created a buzz among content creators.
The revenue distribution plan centers around sharing a percentage of the ad revenue from ads displayed in response to the creators’ posts. To qualify for participation, content creators must meet certain criteria. They need to be verified users with a substantial online presence, amassing at least five million impressions on their posts in each of the last three months. Additionally, having a Stripe account is a requirement.
One notable participant is Abhishek Asthana, co-founder of Zorro, who is recognized as “Gabbar Singh” by his 1.4 million followers. Asthana joyfully shared a screenshot indicating that he is set to receive over Rs 2.09 lakh from Twitter. “Blue Tick ke paise vasool (Blue Tick is bang for the buck),” he humorously commented.
X has encountered challenges, including a decline in advertisers due to concerns about Musk’s content moderation approach, which subsequently impacted its revenue. To counter this trend, the platform is actively striving to attract more content creators. Earlier this year, X introduced the ability for users to offer paid subscriptions to their content.
Elon Musk has previously affirmed that the company will allocate the entire subscription revenue to creators during the first year, with the exception of payment gateway charges. This move demonstrates X’s dedication to fostering a vibrant creator community on its platform. As the advertising revenue sharing scheme gains momentum, Indian influencers are reaping the rewards and engaging in a dynamic new chapter of content creation and collaboration.
